About Our
Festivals
A Platform for Change
The Human Rights Are Universal Arts Festival is the premier arts and human rights event in East Africa. Since our inception, we have served as a catalyst for social change, using the power of storytelling to defend dignity and inspire action.
Our festivals are more than just exhibitions; they are interventions. Held in diverse locations—from the bustling streets of Kampala to the historic railway lines of Jinja—we bring art directly to the people. We believe that human rights discourse should not be confined to boardrooms but should resonate in our communities through music, film, poetry, and visual arts.
Each edition explores a critical theme, challenging artists to interpret issues of climate justice, freedom of expression, and social inclusion. By providing a platform for marginalized voices, we aim to ignite a cultural shift where human rights are understood, respected, and defended by all.

Our Mission
To inspire a generation of creatives, ignite dialogue around human rights, and create a more just society that actively promotes inclusion and culture.

Our Vision
A world where art is recognized as a fundamental tool for democracy, where every voice is heard, and where human rights are upheld as universal truths.
